Local heroes celebrated

The borough’s charity sector will be celebrated at the Harrow’s Heroes awards in September 2016.
Run by Harrow Council, the awards, now in their ninth year, recognise the work and commitment of local volunteers.
They were launched by Councillor Rekha Shah, mayor of Harrow, on 28 May at an event in the town centre.
Nominations are open until next Sunday (31 July). Anyone who volunteers in Harrow – individuals or teams – can be nominated: the council’s list of potential nominees focuses on people working “behind the scenes”, from community champions and carers to park user groups, scout leaders, cadets, guides and mentors.
Shah, inviting residents to nominate their “local heroes”, said: “We value the work that our volunteers carry out. They should never go unnoticed. So I am proud that Harrow’s Heroes returns again to give recognition and thanks to our unsung heroes.
“Many may not even consider them as volunteers, but their small acts of kindness can make a huge difference to the lives of others.”
The awards ceremony will take place on 13 September at the Kadwa Patidar Centre.
The nomination form can be found here.
