Harrow Square launches

A 318-home development, part of the 1.75 billion Heart of Harrow Opportunity Area investment programme, has launched by Harrow-on-the-Hill station.

Developer Barratt London presented Harrow Square at 51 College Road on 26 October. Granted permission in December 2015, it is the redevelopment of the former Harrow post office site.

It includes studios, one, two and three-bedroom apartments, along with a new square and a 1,450sq m library.

Public space for 2,413sq m will be able to accommodate street markets and pop-up events.

And 862sq m of floorspace will be provided for retail, office accommodation, cafes, restaurants, pubs and bars.

Designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM), Harrow Square will be comprised in four blocks from six to 20 storeys. 

Housing association The Hyde Group will manage 51 of the new homes, which will be allocated as affordable.

“Harrow Square is a crucial element in Harrow’s ambitious regeneration plans, a scheme that will benefit the entire community, with a new public space designed by internationally renowned architects,” said Gary Patrick, regional sales director at Barratt London.

Most apartments in the development will have private balconies and roof terraces, and all homes will have access to communal roof terraces. Solar panels on the roof will generate part of the energy for the buildings.

In the basement, 45 car parking spaces will be provided, along with electric car charging points and cycle racks.

“There has already been strong interest in the development, as Harrow offers excellent connectivity into central London,” added Patrick. “Astute investors have also been attracted by Harrow’s designation as one of London’s Opportunity Areas which will create new jobs and see significant improvement to infrastructure.”

Harrow Square is scheduled for completion in 2019.
